Contract Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or SLP-Assistant

Location: El Paso County and surrounding areas – Multiple Head Start Sites 

Position Type: Contract (Part-time/Full-time) 

Duration: August 2025 – June 2026, with potential for renewal 

Compensation: $50-65/hour

Desert Star Therapy partners with local Head Start centers to support the communication development of young children from diverse backgrounds. We are dedicated to early intervention, school readiness, and family-centered care. 

Position Summary 

We are seeking a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and/or SLP-assistant to provide contract-based services to preschool-aged children (3–5 years) enrolled in Head Start programs across multiple locations. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood development and comfortable traveling between sites within El Paso County and/or surrounding areas (e.g. Clint, San Elizario, Tornillo, and Fabens). We are looking for a committed professional who values collaboration, flexibility, and early intervention. Join us in helping young children build strong communication foundations for school success. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide on-site speech and language therapy services in accordance with IDEA and Head Start standards. 

  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate therapy plans. 

  • Collaborate closely with Head Start staff, families, and other related service providers. 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of services, progress, and compliance timelines. 

  • Travel to assigned Head Start centers across El Paso, TX and/or surrounding regions. 

Qualifications 

  • Current Texas SLP or SLP-assistant licensure. 

  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to multiple Head Start sites. 

  • Experience or strong interest in working with children ages 3–5, particularly in educational or early intervention settings. 

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 

  • Familiarity with early childhood development. 

  • Experience with play-based therapy, speech/language delay, and early literacy.
